I have always been a fan of pioneer amps and subs ever since my first system I installed, 7 years ago. I have a pioneer GM-5300T 760 watt amp that I picked up from Wal-Mart for around $120 that hasn’t let me down yet. For the subs themselves, if you haven’t bought them already, I seriously recomend ebay for the best deals. For speaker boxes, I have always prefered to go to Menards and get a sheet of 3/8″ particle board and make my own custom box, but if you don’t want to spend the time to do that, again I would recomend Wal-Mart, or ebay. In addition, you will need a wiring kit, that comes with a power wire, a ground wire, a remote wire and I think it even comes with a few connectors as well. It’s been a while since I bought one though, so I’m not sure. Once you have all that, set up is fairly easy. Depending on how hard it is to take apart the interior of your car, or how well hidden you want all the wires. Start in the back with where you want the subs and amp to go, and run the power wire and remote wire all the way up to the front of the car. Underneath the dash, probably on both the driver and passenger sides, there are rubber seals where all the electrical wires go from inside the car to the engine compartment. You have to run the power wire through one of those seals. Preferably the one on the same side as the battery. The remote wire will get hooked up to the wiring harnes on the back of the radio itself, which should have a lead just for that purpose. Run the power wire up to the battery, being careful not to let it touch any part of the motor that moves or gets hot. It’s tricky, but not too difficult. Don’t hook it up yet. Go back to the back, and find a spot underneath the interior where you can get to bare metal with a screw in it. This will be for the ground. I have mine going to one of the bolts on my trunk latch, which works out pretty well. to hook everything up, start with the speaker wires to the amp, then remote, then ground, then power. At this point, you can go back up to the front and hook up the power wire to the battery. Just make sure the end of the power wire at the amp end doesn’t touch anything metal (other than the amps pwer connector) after this, because now it’s a live wire, and you’ll blow the fuse on the power wire, or worst case scenario, the car will catch fire. Anyway, at this point you should be good to go. You have to turn the radio on so the amp will come on. (That’s what the remote wire is for. It looks for a signal from the radio before letting the amp turn on, so that it’s not needlessly running with nothing to amplify.) If everything went right, you now have a bumpin’ system that all your friends will be jealous of, and the neighbors will hate.
You can use the head unit to say run the front speakers & a set of 6″x9″s on the back shelf for example, its a fairly new head-unit so there should be rear speaker channels. Then use an amp to run the sub, depending on the wattage of the sub get an equivilant amp, all that u then need is a amp wiring kit an run it from the battery to the boot. u’ll need to run a remote lead from the 12v out on the head-unit to a switch (say mounted on the dash) then run it to the 12v terminal on the amp. for your 1st system go for matchin amp / speaker / sub’s, Rockford fosgate, Alpine, JBL, Sony, just whatever takes your fancy. Halfords or similar car / audio shops have everything u need as well as advice.
hope this helps
