if I get a new amplifier, does it have to be a monsoon which came with it? Or can I use something different? He said it needs to be a factory one, its a 2003 VW Beetle Turbo S.

I don’t think the amp is the problem.
Those clowns at best buy are out to make a buck.
It could be the speakers itself or maybe just a wire.
Check with a car audio shop and see what they say BEFORE you go back to best buy.
No, no, do go back to Best Buy, and punch that retard in the middle of his face for being ignorant.
The reason that the speakers are quiet is because the auto manufacturers tune down the signal being output from the stereo, this adds life to the speakers by not operating them to their full potential. The same thing goes for the stock amplifiers as well. You want better sound, replace the stereo and the speakers. Do not buy anything for your car at Best Buy, none of the people that they hire to handle car audio have a clue to what they are doing, they are the people that your local shops would not hire. If you are interested in reoutfitting your audio system in your car, I have put a little list together for you.http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2237…

Wiring harness is between $10 and $100 (depends on if you wan to keep the warning chimes, if not it will be the lesser amount), 8 gauge wiring kit from Rockford Fosgate $40, antenna adapter is about $10, stereo mounting kit for the dash is about $10, 4 channel rca cable from Kicker $30. Everything is from http://www.sonicelectronix.com
Total price for everything is: $569.91
the guys are right dont buy from best buy they dont know anything about cars at all and there also right about the stereo being tuned down or could also be a faulty connection i would go to a car shop ask them to take the panel off and look at it and diagnose the problem around where i live the guys at my auto shop will look at most things for free if you ask nicely.
I’d go to like Audio-Express or a specific! specific! place for car stereo’s that way the people know wtf their talking about
I’d get a new Stereo it self and wire when you buy a new car the stereo’s suck along with the wires making it crapy connection therfore making it quiter less quality sound
and if you do get a new stereo, wires, and amp id just get new speakers while your at it
prolly wont even cost you much to get a decent stereo system
